At 7:06pm on Wednesday 21 October, Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team was called to assist two walkers who had become stranded near the summit of Cadair Idris in strong winds, rain and darkness after becoming separated from the rest of their group.

Using PhoneFind technology, the pair’s location was quickly established and regular communication maintained while rescue plans were developed. Given the deteriorating weather conditions and the walkers’ exposed location near the summit, a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Humberside was tasked to carry out the rescue, while team members deployed to support operations from the ground.

The helicopter successfully located and recovered both walkers before transporting them to a landing site near Dol Idris, where they were assessed by ambulance personnel. Further enquiries confirmed that the remaining four members of their group were safe at Ty Nant, allowing the party to be reunited later that evening. Fortunately, no significant injuries were reported.
