At about 2.00 pm on Tuesday, Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team (ASART) was alerted to a seriously injured walker on Glasgwm at the southern end of the Aran Ridge. The walker, a woman, was reported to have multiple chest and limb injuries. Due to the serious nature of the incident, assistance from the Sea King helicopter from RAFValley was requested, but at the time of the initial call-out, the cloud base was sitting below the Aran peaks. Due to the dangers of icing, the helicopter does not operate in cloud and so a group of volunteers from the Team was mustered; the plan being to air-lift a party as close as possible to the casualty, and for them to stretcher carry the woman to the aircraft. In the event, the improving weather and rising cloud-base meant that the Sea King was able to attend the casualty directly, and the Team was stood-down. (stock photo)
