At around 2:30 p.m. volunteers from Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team were made aware of a 16 year old girl with a suspected dislocated knee at Pont Caletwr. Initially the North East Wales Team had been tasked with the rescue, believing the casualty to be at a location of that name near Pentrefoelas. However, it was established that the actual location was south of Fairbourne and the rescue was passed over to the Aberdyfi Team. The girl was part of an outdoor education centre group undertaking a gorge walking activity when she slipped on a rock in the riverbed and injured her knee. She was no longer able to place any weight on the leg and was in considerable pain. Local Team Members were quickly on scene, giving pain relief, splinting the knee, and getting the casualty into a stretcher ready for the extraction. The riverbed was an uneven and slippery surface to work on, and rather than try and move with the load, the stretcher was passed hand to hand down a line of stationary rescuers. At a suitable exit point the team got onto better ground and the casualty was moved down the sometimes steep and bracken-filled hillside to an awaiting ambulance for transport to Bronglais Hospital.
