At 5:53pm on Sunday 23 August, Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team was called to assist a young male walker who had suffered an ankle injury near the summit of Cadair Idris.
Fortunately, an ASART team member who was already on the mountain was able to reach the casualty quickly and provide an initial assessment while the team mobilised. Due to the casualty’s remote location, difficult terrain and the approaching hours of darkness, support was requested from Rescue Helicopter 387, with South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team (SSSART) placed on standby should additional resources be required.
The casualty was assessed by the helicopter paramedic and successfully airlifted from the mountain before being transferred to a waiting ambulance for onward transport to Hospital.
Team members then continued to the summit area to support the remainder of the walking group, providing food, water, torches and spare clothing before escorting them safely down the mountain.
