Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team was called to assist a fell runner on Cader Idris who had fallen and sustained a head injury during an organised running event.
Given the casualty’s age, medical history and the nature of his injuries, a substantial team response was initiated. Initial concerns suggested a stretcher evacuation might be required, and rescuers deployed with specialist casualty care and evacuation equipment.
Following assessment on scene, team members determined that the safest option was to assist the casualty off the mountain on foot via a more gradual descent route. Supported by mountain rescue personnel throughout, the casualty was successfully escorted from the hill and handed over to event officials, with advice to seek further medical assessment.
