At 9:05pm on Monday 31 August, Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team was called to assist two walkers who had become lost while descending Cadair Idris after dark. Initial information was extremely limited, and poor mobile phone coverage meant that normal electronic methods of locating the party were unsuccessful.
Using a combination of local knowledge, search management techniques and small pieces of information received from the walkers, team members gradually narrowed the search area.
After an extensive overnight search, the pair were located when team members heard their calls for help. During the incident it became apparent that one member of the party had suffered head and neck injuries after being struck by a falling rock on steep ground.
The uninjured walker was escorted to safety while the casualty received treatment before being evacuated from the mountain by stretcher and handed into the care of the ambulance service for onward transport to Hospital
